author. She has been featured in national magazines
such as Black Enterprise & Black Issues Book Review
along with numerous radio and television appearances.
Sara started her career in Houston, her hometown and
moved to Chicago in 2007. Sara has over 25 years of
leadership experience, gained in energy, financial services,
staffing, and executive search firms. She has placed
thousands of individuals in various capacities within
countless organizations.
Sara
had to overcome enormous obstacles on her road to success,
including being a child of a single parent and never
knowing her birth father, growing up in a low income
environment with seven siblings, and having dreams to
achieve but no means to fulfill them. She was a motivational
speaker and trainer in 1997 when she was inspired to
write her first book Turning Stones into Gems. This
book is an inspirational self-development system for
individuals trying to find purpose and direction in
their life and career. Sara self-published the Turning
Stones into Gems along with a companion Prayer & Gratitude
Journal.
The
success of Sara's books led to many inquiries from other
aspiring writers. Consequently, the company started
a series of career development seminars for aspiring
writers and motivational speakers. How To Self-Publish
& Market Your Own Book was co-authored and published
with her husband, Mack Smith, to further assist writers
and meet the demand for this information. The expanded
third edition was published in 2007. Sara received a
Bachelor's of Arts degree in Journalism from the University
of Southern California and a Master of Arts degree in
Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
Currently, Sara is a recruiting manager with an energy
firm. She resides in Chicago area with her husband and
son where she continues to write and speak.
